1. The Flaming Lips have been around since the 80s, but have only in recent years reached commercial success. Their psychedelic alternative sound has been compared to the likes of Pink Floyd and Beach Boys and their new album, Embryonic, just dropped October 13th. Download “See the Leaves,” “The Ego’s Last Stand,” and “Silver Trembling Hands.”

2. Even if you’re annoyed with all the vampire hype, Twilight’s New Moon soundtrack is totally worth checking out. It’s a well edited mix of some new songs by indie favorites. Try Band of Skulls’ “Friends,” Grizzly Bear’s “Slow Life,” Hurricane Bells “Monsters,” and OK Go’s “Shooting the Moon.”

3. British based Florence and the Machine’s is already HUGE in the UK with their new debut album Lungs. Florence has a great soulful voice with folksy alternative instrumental backing. Every song off Lungs is outstanding, but try “Dog Days are Over,” “Howl,” and “Blinding.”

4. Dizzee Rascal, the UK electro rapper just released his new album Tounge N’ Cheek, a cheeky hip hop album. A really fun song off it is “Road Rage.” His stuff is much more poppy than American hip hop if you’re into that kind of thing. He’s kind of a male version of Lady Sovereign, although that’s an obvious comparison. .
