Some Really New and Some Really Old But it’s all good
Today, I will begin with a band most people have never heard of before. However, I am sure you have heard of the Black Keys, Q-Tip, RZA, Raekwon, Ludacris, Mos Def, Jim Jones, and ODB. Well, these artists and also the less popular but nonetheless highly talented, Noe, Nicole Wray, Billy Danze, and Pharoahe Monch, are all teaming up to make and album. Yes, I know what you are thinking, how are the Black Keys and why are the Black Keys apart of this. Well, all of the hip-hop artists are fans of the Black Keys and decided one day that they were going to make some songs, then the formation of the band BLAKROC was created. BLAKROC is music by the Black Keys and lyrics by the above artists. They plan on releasing their album Friday November 27. It is sure to be amazing. For now you can listen to tid-bits of the music and watch 8 videos of BLAKROC recording in studio at www.blakroc.com.
Now on towards some other exciting new bands.
My new favorite band has to be Those Darlins. Their songs consist of being wild and drunk, (Wild Ones and DUI or Die), having messed up teeth and being poor (Snaggle Tooth Mama), and eating whole chickens while being drunk (Whole Damn Thing). Their style is Hillbilly or Rockabilly, not to be confused with country (there is a difference). Just give this band a listen and tell me you did not smile because of the ridiculousness in the lyrics…You can’t do it.
Band #3: Jeff the Brotherhood
I saw this band mentioned on Spin.com and they are pretty rad. If you like your basic “today rock” then you will enjoy this band. Two members make up the band but they can put out a lot of noise from there just released album Heavy Days. Top choices from this album to listen to would have to be Bone Jam, Heavy Days, and Growing.
Last Band: It is sad that I have come to the last band, but have no fear, for it’s a winner! No this band is not new and no they have not put an album out in over a year, but does that really matter for new music wednesday? No NMW is new music for you! Not what is new today, but I digress. So the band that I will bring from my ITunes vault and unveil for you (which is for a reason because they are amazing and if you don’t listen then well, your lost) is The Duke Spirit. The name itself can tell you that this band is good, but their latest album, Neptune (released April 2008) is a masterpiece. I can not find a song here that I don’t like or that I just kind of like. All songs are amazing, but if you must choose only three to listen to they are The Step and the Walk, You Really Wake up the Love in Me, and This Ship was Built to Last. Please if any band I have mentioned, listen to this band. It consists of a petite blonde woman who can blow you away with her powerful bluesy voice, for me she is the singer I would want in my band.
