Music for your Face
First off, just want to let everyone know that Them Crooked Vultures entire CD is out and it is amazing, definitely should be considered for best album of the year so check it out. Also the band I mentioned last week, The Fiery Furnaces (who also just released several new versions of older songs), are in a feud with Radiohead. The guitarist calls Radiohead crap and something he would never listen to! I just thought this was awesome! Anywho,
On to some more music
1st Band- Pete and the Pirates
Okay, this band is really not that new, but they are still good nonetheless and I would be surprised if people have heard of them. They have a pop sound with a little edge, and the singer has a very unique voice. Must listens are “Mr. Understanding” “Come on Feet” and the soft “She Doesn’t Belong”.
2nd Band-The Bravery
Soon releasing their 4th album, The Bravery has gone into an even more electronica direction. The single “Slow Poison” is the highlight, it exudes David Bowie every step of the way. The single “I Am Your Skin” leaves out basic guitar and emphasizes more on the electric short keyboard. It is a catchy song, but hopefully the rest of the album will be better. Other older hit songs by The Bravery include “Believe” “Tyrant” and “Unconditional”.
3rd and last Band- The Blind Boys of Alabama
This choice is out of the blue, yes. For those of us who love church but miss the great music and voices that come with it (cough: fellowship Bible) there are the Blind Boys of Alabama. This band is a great church harmony group who can really blast out the hymns. They have even recorded an album with Ben Harper. There latest album, “Enlightenment”, just makes you want to become a better person. With a beautiful cover of “Amazing Grace” and the bluesy “When the Lord Gets Ready (You Got to Move)” this album is just dandy. Give it a listen and also check out some of their earlier songs such as “Way Down in the Hole” and “Free At Last”.
